Driving lesson prices on EzLicence are set by each instructor, so they can vary depending on where you're located, your chosen transmission (manual or auto), and the instructor you select.
The best way to find out? Enter your suburb in our search tool and compare lesson costs instantly. You'll see available instructors, their pricing, ratings, and car details — all in one spot.

Test Package prices are set by each instructor, so the cost can vary depending on who you book with. No matter who you choose, every Test Package includes:
Pick-up from your chosen location
Some instructors offer the Test Package as a standalone option, while others may require you to have had at least one lesson with them first.
👉 Check out available instructors near you and lock in your spot for test day.
Note: Test Packages are available in most states, but not currently offered in ACT, SA or TAS. Our test package books the instructor & vehicle only, so you need to book your driving test with your local roads authority.
After your first lesson, your driving instructor will be in the best position to assess how many driving lessons you should take, based on factors such as:
• Previous driving experience, if any
• Confidence level
• How quickly you appear to learn and master driving techniques
A New Driver
If you have no driving experience at all, we recommend at least 7 to 10 hours of driving lessons with an accredited driving instructor. For less confident learners, it’s not unusual to book up to 20 hours of instruction. We all learn at different speeds, and it is important to make sure you have a handle on what you’ve been taught in your driving lessons, not just for your driver’s test, but to be a safe and competent driver.
If you are a new driver but have had some driving experience – say, with a family member or friend – we recommend at least 5 to 7 hours of driving instruction to fine-tune your skills and prepare for your driving test.
International Driver’s Licence Holders
Most international driver’s licence holders book about 2 to 3 hours of driving instruction to prepare for the driver’s test here. Notably, there has been a high failure rate in this category, so we recommend starting with at least 3 to 5 hours of driving lessons before attempting the driving test.
Licenced wanting to learn how to drive a manual car
Most learners who already hold an Australian Driver's Licence, but wish to learn on a manual vehicle, will require 3 to 5 hours of driving lessons.
Please note that these ranges are a guide only and will vary from learner to learner.
Definitely - and it’s a great way to speed things up..
If you're learning in NSW, QLD & ACT, every 1 hour of structured driving lessons booked through EzLicence counts as 3 logbook hours (up to a bonus of 30 hours for 10 lessons). After that, each lesson still counts, just at a 1:1 rate.
Note that night lessons (between sunset and sunrise) work a little differently — only 1 hour can count towards your night hours, with the other 2 hours going towards your daytime total.
In Tasmania, each 1-hour lesson gives you 2 logbook hours, up to a max of 20 hours from 10 lessons.
Not a bad way to hit your target faster!
If your search comes up with no results, it is because there are no driving instructors who are currently willing or able to service the area of your chosen pick-up location. Simply enter an alternate location that is convenient for you and search again.
Of course! Many existing driver’s licence holders book driving lessons to refresh their skills or build up some more confidence, especially if they have spent some time not driving. We recommend about 3 to 5 hours of driving instruction in cases like this.
Absolutely. At EzLicence, we know that having a rapport with your driving instructor makes for a more comfortable – and therefore effective – learning experience. If you want to book a lesson with another driving instructor, just follow the same steps. From your dashboard select 'find another instructor' and then choose the instructor you'd like. Check their availability and book online. Take your driving lesson. It's that simple.
EzLicence is like a driving school - only better. We’re an online platform that connects you with over 1,000 verified, independent driving instructors across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and beyond.
Unlike a traditional driving school, EzLicence allows you to:
Each instructor runs their own business, so you get the benefit of experience and flexibility — all in one place.
Ready to start? Find an instructor near you.
Absolutely. Driving a manual transmission vehicle is becoming less and less common, but it’s not yet a “lost art”. Whether you are learning manual to be more versatile or because it’s a more engaging (and fun) drive, we recommend booking 3 to 5 hours of driving instruction to start.
