What is the Learner Theory Test?

The Learner Theory Test (LTT) is a computer-based road rule knowledge test. You have to answer 50 questions. There are two parts to the test, 8 give way questions and 42 general knowledge questions.

How do you pass the Learner Theory Test?

The test is split into two parts. The first section will consist of 8 give way questions. You will need to get all 8 correct to move onto the second section. The second (and final) part of the test will consist of 42 questions. You will need to get at least 32 of these questions right to pass. The sooner you practice the greater your chances of passing first time!

The Driver’s Handbook

The Driver’s Handbook is an important guide for drivers in South Australia. Printed copies of The Driver’s Handbook are available at Service SA customer service centres and selected newsagents. You can also download the Driver’s Handbook here:

What happens if I fail?

If you do not pass the test conducted at a SA Customer Service Centre, you’ll need to pay the fee again to retake the test. Usually, you will not need to re-book a time and will be able to immediately re-sit the test should you choose to do so.
